INTRO: Daily San Juan-St. Maarten Flights Coming Soon!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear friends and clients,

If you want to get from San Juan to St. Maarten next season, you will have ample opportunity to do so at even more affordable rates. Why? Both Jetblue and Inselair have announced daily flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to St. Maarten coming soon.

On April 5th InselAir operated its first third flight per week between St. Maarten and Puerto Rico. The airline now operates each Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. InselAir has been operating the route twice a week since 2009.

InselAir wants to position itself even more in the Puerto Rican market, creating better fares and offering new packages in collaboration with various hotels in St. Maarten, with future outlooks to possibly operate between the islands daily.

JetBlue on the other hand has already made definite plans to start their daily flights in November, right in time for the high season. Ofcourse, this is subject to governmental approval. But I don't foresee any problems in this area. You can read more about this in the news item below...

Why are we so happy with daily service between San Juan and St. Maarten?

Well, obviously daily flights benefit the island of St. Maarten on the whole. Especially since AA ceased their American Eagle flights to St. Maarten from Puerto Rico. However, the daily flights between San Juan and St. Maarten also offers you, our St. Barths clients, more options to get to St. Barths fast, econommically and at your convenience in terms of choices on a daily basis. St. Maarten remains the main hub for our shared charters service to St. Barths. Therefore, the more options you have to get to St. Maarten, the more chances you have for a seamless connection to St. Barths... VIP style.

Read our Travel Tip below about how to get to St. Barths VIP style with fares starting as low as $250 per seat. See our Share-A-Charter Special below...

Happy Readings!

JetBlue announces daily San Juan/PJIA service

AIRPORT--JetBlue airlines has announced daily service from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan (SJU), Puerto Rico, to St. Maarten's Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) beginning in the fall, subject to receipt of governmental approval.

JetBlue is now the largest airline out of Puerto Rico in terms of capacity. This new route will be the airline's eighth non-stop destination from San Juan and its third out of St. Maarten.

Flights will go on sale shortly via the company's website with service expected to begin November 17. The new service will be JetBlue's second intra-Caribbean route, in addition to its existing service between San Juan and the Dominican Republic.

This new route adds to JetBlue's connecting options to St. Maarten from along the U.S. East Coast and gives customers travelling around the Caribbean from its growing San Juan Blue City a new option for island-hopping.

JetBlue will have 27 daily departures from San Juan and 34 daily departures from Puerto Rico, including Aguadilla and Ponce, this summer. This new route will provide convenient connections to St. Maarten from New York's John F. Kennedy (JFK), Boston's Logan BOS, Orlando International MCO and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International FLL airports.

The new service follows the recent addition of flights from San Juan to both Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida. "The Puerto Rico Tourism Company is enthusiastic about JetBlue's new service from Puerto Rico to St. Maarten, as it provides essential access to and from the Dutch/French Caribbean, one our top 10 markets in the region," said Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Mario Gonzalez.

"Visitors from St. Maarten/St. Martin visit Puerto Rico for diverse reasons like shopping, medical, and sports and cultural events, among others. This market generated an average of 1,900 room nights in calendar year 2010, principally in small and medium hotels. This new service strengthens Puerto Rico's position as the main connecting point to numerous destinations within the region."

"I am pleased to learn of JetBlue's decision to begin servicing the SJU-SXM route," St. Maarten's Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs and Transportation Franklin Meyers was quoted as saying in a JetBlue press statement. "Following our recent discussions in New York, JetBlue has proven to be a valuable partner since its initial entry into St. Maarten in 2008, providing daily service from New York as well as servicing St. Maarten from Boston.

"I am confident that together we will grow the SJU-SXM route. This new service will open up the possibility for potential visitors from key source markets besides Puerto Rico – namely, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando and Boston – to come to the destination."

"The JetBlue-St. Maarten partnership has changed the landscape of tourism in St. Maarten," said Director of Tourism of St. Maarten Regina LaBega in the same release. "The airfares from key source markets, for example, have become more affordable, therefore resulting in a larger volume of visitors to the destination as well as a higher visitor expenditure on island.

"The new SJU-SXM service by JetBlue, using the famous Embraer aircraft, will certainly boost traffic in both directions, consequently contributing positively to our economy."

Service to St. Maarten will be operated by JetBlue's Embraer E190 aircraft, offering two-by-two all-leather seating. The airline's customers will also enjoy free first-checked bags, award-winning customer service and unlimited complimentary snacks and drinks.

PJIA Airport gets eight self-service kiosks

Monday, 4 April 2011, AIRPORT--The Princess Juliana International Airport holding company PJIAE installed its eight Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks on April 1.

"This development represents our aim at remaining in the forefront of the aviation industry in this region. I am proud to say that PJIAE is the first airport in the direct vicinity of St. Maarten that brings this technology online," said Interim Managing Director Larry Donker.

The CUSS kiosks will allow passengers to perform an automatic check-in, which cuts check-in time by more than half for passengers with checked luggage and offers an even quicker option for those without any checked luggage.

This allows PJIAE to accommodate the extra flow of travellers during peak hours by reducing facility congestion and enabling better use of check-in positions and gates.

"By introducing CUSS kiosks, we are providing faster check-in for our passengers and also reducing queues at check-in desks. The common use kiosks can be used by any of the airlines to offer check-in to their passengers, ensuring that both our passengers and our airline customers receive the highest level of service," Donker said.

Supplied by SITA, a leading specialist in air transport communication and IT solutions, the new kiosks provide multiple services to the traveller, while maintaining flexibility both for airports and airlines. US Airways is the first carrier to make use of the service, but other airlines such as Continental, Delta and Air France-KLM have already signed agreements and will be making use of the service shortly.

The aviation industry has welcomed airport self-service check-in kiosks, as they improve passenger processing and customer service.
